SPLIT BLACK GRAM WITH ELEPHANT APPLE (Matidail Aru Outenga)

Ingredients

  • Black gram: 125 gm
  • Ripe elephant apple 1 inch pieces: 12
  • Mustard seed paste: 1 tbsp
  • Water: 800 ml
  • Mustard oil: 3 tbsp
  • Dry chillies: 4
  • Panch-phuron: ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar: to taste
  • For garnishing coriander leaves

Directions

  1. - Soak the black gram overnight. - Wash and drain. Slightly pound the elephant apple. - Boiled the elephant apple with a cup of water for 4 whistles in a pressure cooker. - Take the remaining water in a cooker and boil the black gram. - After 2 whistle reduce heat and cook for another 4 minutes. - Heat oil in a karahi. - Temper with panch-phuron and dry chillies. - Add the hot boiling black gram and salt. - Also add the elephant apple with the juice and mustard seed paste. - Simmer till done. Add sugar and taste for salt. - Garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy with Joha rice.
